Soil and Rock Slope Stability Analysis based on Numerical Manifold Method and Graph Theory

چکیده مقاله:
Limit equilibrium method, strength reduction method and Finite Difference Methods are the most prevalently used methods for soil and rock slope stability analysis. However, it can be mention that those have some limitations in practical application. In the Limit equilibrium method, the constitutive model cannot be considered and many assumptions are needed between slices of soil and rock. The strength reduction method requires iterative and continual calculations and does not give the slip surface directly. For slope stability analysis a new method based on the numerical Manifold method and Graph theory is this research developed that can directly calculate the potential critical slip surface and minimum safety factor according to the stress results of numerical simulation. This method is based on current stress state and can overcome the disadvantages mentioned above in those three traditional methods.

Rock Slope Stability Analysis Using Discrete Element Method
Rock slope stability depends very much on the strength features of the rock and the geometrical and strength characteristics of the discontinuities (e.g., roughness, wall strength and persistence). Since a rock mass is not a continuum, its behavior is dominated by such discontinuities as faults, joints and bedding planes. Also, Rock slope instability is a major hazard for human activities and o...

متن کاملNumerical probabilistic analysis for slope stability in fractured rock masses using DFN-DEM approach
Due to existence of uncertainties in input geometrical properties of fractures, there is not any unique solution for assessing the stability of slopes in jointed rock masses. Therefore, the necessity of applying probabilistic analysis in these cases is inevitable. In this study a probabilistic analysis procedure together with relevant algorithms are developed using Discrete Fracture Network-Dis...
متن کاملThe Stability Analysis Method of the Cohesive Granular Slope on the Basis of Graph Theory
This paper attempted to provide a method to calculate progressive failure of the cohesivefrictional granular geomaterial and the spatial distribution of the stability of the cohesive granular slope. The methodology can be divided into two parts: the characterization method of macro-contact and the analysis of the slope stability. Based on the graph theory, the vertexes, the edges and the edge s...
متن کاملAdvanced Numerical Techniques in Rock Slope Stability Analysis – Applications and Limitations
Stability analyses are routinely performed in order to assess the safe and functional design of an excavated slope (e.g. open pit mining, road cuts, etc.), and/or the equilibrium conditions of a natural slope. The analysis technique chosen depends on both site conditions and the potential mode of failure, with careful consideration being given to the varying strengths, weaknesses and limitation...

Original scientific paper The cutting of a high-slope is a complex nonlinear system that is random, fuzzy and variable. Stability evaluation for it from both qualitative and quantitative perspectives is essential in disaster management. This study firstly conducts the engineering experience analogy, giving a qualitative description of the stability of the slope. Then the cutting slope stability...
